A Just Her playlist highlighting the UK-based artist’s most inspiring tracks…
If you had to pick an ironic artist name, Just Her would be a strong contender. The globe-trotting DJ has more quivers to her bow than Robin Hood: Musician. Songwriter. Engineer. Lecturer. Student. DJ. Mother. Partner. Label Owner. It’s an epiphet which seems euphemistic for someone so busy. Yet, she finds time to address all those roles… just her. But living a life following your passions teaches resilience and a strong work ethic; staying the course inevitably leads to challenges that need to be overcome. It’s impressive and inspiring.
The Brighton-based artist made two Balance appearances this year: first, with her exquisite single, ‘Lifted’, featured as the closing track on mix one of the Balance presents Dave Seaman and Quivver compilation. That was followed by an exquisite Balance Selections session which really showcased her range. It’s a contemporary mix highlighting what makes electronic music so exciting in 2024.
All that musical nous feature deep roots – and we were curious as to what would that Just Her playlist look like. So we asked the Constant Circles owner to divulge the tracks which made her the hi-bug she is today; those vital and/or inspiring tracks which played a role in her journey. And if you like the sound(s) of this, then make sure to follow the Balance Extra Spotify for the completed Just Her playlist (alongside lists from other artists).

Buying this track as a kid on 7-inch vinyl was the beginning of my journey into a love of house music, so it seemed like a no-brainer to include it, as I feel like it influences everything I do. For me, this tune still has all the elements of the perfect dance track—emotive melodies and a moving vocal provide the feeling, combined with a killer hook plus a driving bassline and drums to pump the dancefloor. It still sounds fresh today!
Permanent Vacation

One of my favourite producers of the moment on one of my favourite labels – this track has influenced both my recent productions, mixes and sets. It really stands through the uniqueness of the sound and production and yet it is fully functional to work the dancefloor. That is a very hard combination to achieve!

I grew up on trip-hop and electronica, with one of my favourite albums of all time being Maxinquay by Tricky. It is something that I still listen to frequently outside the studio, alongside the likes of Massive Attack and Portishead. There is no doubt that the flavour of these amazing artists has shaped my musical journey and still does today.
Armada
1998
The ultimate trance/progressive classic, which I’m still playing in my sets today. The euphoria of the chord progression and the breakdown in this tune is one in a million and something that I often think about from both a clubber and DJ perspective when I’m making new music.

I feel slightly awkward including my own track as an influence, but this tune is probably the one I’m most proud of, out of everything I’ve ever made. I also think it encompasses my sound perfectly. Once you’ve finally reached that moment where there is nothing you would look back and change about a track it becomes a really big thing (it only took me 15 years of producing music to get there haha!). So I always use this track as a reference and a kind of benchmark, to make sure that I’ve got that thread of my own sound in my latest productions and I’m consistent in the quality of my music.
