Sébastien Devaud, aka Agoria, has been an internationally recognised producer for some 10 years, ever since his break-through single ‘La Onzième Marche’ and subsequent album ‘Blossom’ transported the young Lyon based DJ/producer into the global limelight. Now as an established artist and DJ he co-runs the electronic music label InFiné, helped to establish Nuits Sonores, (an ambitious electronic and indie event that takes place all over the city of Lyon every Spring) and now stands tall on the praise for his recently released and highly lauded third studio album ‘Impermanence’. Now to cap it all off, he unveils fabric 57: a DJ mix that takes us on a techno journey as seen through the unique full spectrum kaleidoscope of this ever surprising artist.
“I think my mix is more about the whole spectrum of dance music – a whole panorama of what I like to play. This is more a journey into the techno landscape with all that the generic term techno means to me: acid, house, dub, repetitive, epic and techno! Even if I’m playing a lot of techno in my DJ set I always manage to try to mix tracks that are not supposed to fit together. That is my excitation every weekend. Here I was happy to create a remix live of Ella Fitzgerald mixed with four other tracks for example – or to arrange a new ‘Speechless’ vocal version with Sun Ra, a trio with Carl Craig and La Scalars.” – Agoria
It is this knowledge and craft that Agoria now returns with the delivery of fabric 57 as the French techno figurehead presents one of the most diverse and meticulous sets to hit the fabric series to date. Jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sun Ra and Tony Allen drift almost imperceptibly into and out of house and techno from the likes of Carl Craig, Cottam, Space Dimension Controller and of course Agoria himself. Layers and snippets of each track are interwoven throughout the duration, making fabric 57 as much a seamless tapestry of rhythm and invention as it is a DJ mix.
