Over the last 5 years German Brigante has risen through the underground techno and house fraternity to become a genuine headline booking. The Spaniard (he is only German by name) is known for a impressive back catalogue of tough and moody productions which always display an air of suspense about them. Proof of Brigante’s rising popularity was most evident in 2103 with a series of releases leading him into RA’s most charted artists list that year through a very respectable placing at #57 (and support form a host of big name selectors). Recent releases have seen Brigante signed to a who’s who of labels including Get Physical, Saved, Form, 100%Pure, MBF and many more, and of course, many more charting positions from the world’s biggest names. Currently in the studio working on his new album to be released on Get Physical, the talented producer has taken the time to mix our next Balance Selections podcast. And what a ride it is: Deep and engaging, but never losing sight of the dance floor. With tracks from labels like Kompakt, Noir, Visionquest and more, there will be something for everyone here.

What music did you listen too as a child?
When I was a child I loved Michael Jackson and Prince, I could not stop listening to them as well as other artist from the 80s and 90s like George Michael, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Scorpions etc… even bands like Technotronic or Snap.
My father is a flamenco guitarist and my cousin is considered one of the best flutists and saxophonists of Europe. Flamenco is everywhere at home hahaha.
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
I think that it was at fourteen when I couldn’t stop listening to Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Propellerhead or Fatboy Slim. The electronic sounds of this period fascinated me.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
The first DJ I saw was a person who is one of my best friends nowadays. Jordi Slate introduced me to the DJing world, he taught me a lot. It’s a nice story because he didn’t only teach me to mix, but to know the psychology of the public when you’re playing. Gradually he introduced me to the break beat world, it was what we played.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
I have many favourite producers like Maetrik, Booka Shade, Martin Buttrich, Guy Gerber, Chaim, M.A.N.D.Y, Art Department, Gui Boratto, Tale of Us, Tiefschwarz, Maceo Plex… They still inspire me. The first album that impressed me was Plastikman – Artifaks. It really made me crazy.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
The last record I bought was Chaim – Can’t Wait To C U, I loved it. An EP with three incredible cuts.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
Nowadays I produce with Logic and for my DJ set up I use usb and original vinyls, I mostly enjoy old mixing. In my studio I use little more hardware than software. There, I have devices like Nord Lead 4, Elektron Analogic Keys, Roland Juno 106, Moog Minitaur, Roland JX8P, Virus Ti and one Roland 808. Also I have an analogic mixer. The synth of my life will always be Juno 106 and JX8p, I love it.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
At the moment I’m working on my first album for Get Physical. It include 11 tracks (Dig/Vinyl) and features artist like Thomas Gandey, Nick Maurer, James Teej, Kevin Over and Freakme. Also, I’ll be releasing a remix EP on Wow!, with remixes from Luca Donzelli or Richy Ahmed. In addition to one remix for Tube & Berger and Paji on Kittball.
Where can we hear you perform?
This month I will be in Ibiza (D-Tox), Barcelona (City Hall), London (The Egg) and Dusseldford (Feieir Rhen) among others. I don’t have a residency in a club. My last podcast was for the ‘The Sun’ one month ago and now this one for you.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
For this podcast I selected 10 tracks that I like and play whenever I can and are artists that I admire. I wanted to show a personal side to me. It includes a remix for Tube & Berger too. I mixed with Traktor and it isn’t more than 2 hours but I enjoyed a lot.
