Born and raised in Adelaide, Australia, Juliet was drawn to club culture’s liberating form in her early teens, quickly becoming fascinated by the art of DJing, with a penchant for driving, mesmeric techno.
Now based between Ibiza, and Berlin, Juliet Fox’s global profile has been bolstered by a string of releases through prominent record labels such as Drumcode, Filth on Acid, and Kraftek.
With an energetic and motivated presence behind the decks, and a taste for high-impact tracks from techno’s formative years, through to present-day, Juliet Fox’s tour schedule has become increasingly packed, with an impressive run of high-profile club gigs, and festivals slots, making her a highly sought-after artist within the techno scene…

What music did you listen to as a child?
Probably my main memory was Boney M. My parents used to listen to them a lot, and I used to dance around to their music as a kid. Neither of my parents were musicians, but my mum used to sing a lot so I think that’s where I got my spoken word influence from, because I would recite a lot of the tracks. My parents would also play a lot of classical music. My Mum loves Pavarotti, as does my Dad, who’d play The Three Tenors.
When was the first time that you realized that you liked electronic music?
I got into electronic music myself. I’d listen to Adelaide’s Coast FM when I was growing up, and it was on there that I heard Nalin & Kane’s ‘Beachball’ for the first time. That is my most vivid memory of electronic music. And then from the age of 13 or 14 I was listening to a lot of West Coast hip hop, like Tupac.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
I was 14 and got my middle sister Michelle to take me out when she was 18, using a spare ID of her’s to go to a club called Planet in Adelaide. It was amazing. I don’t re-member who was playing, but I remember being on the dance floor, and not wanting to go home… And that carried on from there.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
I would say the main ones when I was 18 to 19 were Moby, Placebo, and Massive Attack. Special tracks for me would be Moby’s ‘Go’, and Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop.’ I remember their style of music to be moving, and interesting with their tracks having a story to them. Those were my three favourites at that time.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
Bicep’s self-titled debut album on Ninja Tune. I found their tracks on this to be touching, and moving. I played it over and over.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
I’m waiting for a new studio to be built in Berlin which will be ready for the 1st of April and I’ll be buying a lot of new hardware for this. I’ve been working a lot more in the box with inbuilt samples, and plugins. Setup-wise, I use CDJs, with an Allen & Heath mixer, and I like to use the BOSS DD-7 Delay Pedal, and the BOSS Reverb Pedal.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I just had my three-track EP out on Filth On Acid, which is already at 90K live streams on Spotify, and now sitting high in the Beatport’s techno chart. Upcoming, I have a track coming out on Drumcode, as part of the A-Sides Vol.9 compilation, due out in April. I’m working on a couple of collaborations with Ramiro Lopez, who I’ve worked with before.
Where can we hear you perform?
I’m now finishing my Australia tour, with the last of my dates being at Bloom in Geelong, and New Guernica in Melbourne on the 14th of March, and on the 15th I’m supporting Nina Kraviz in Perth for the Habitat Garden Party at The Court Hotel. Then I’m off to Miami for Miami Music Week before heading back to Germany.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
I wanted to feature the three tracks just released on Filth on Acid, and I finish off with the last one on Drumcode ‘Was Beautiful’, as this has become available on a new streaming platform from Drumcode, called Aurora, so I wanted to re-feature that track, and also some of my current favourites.
