A long-time favourite in his native country, Gadi Mitrani has been representing the Turkish underground with esteem since first bursting onto the scene over 20 years ago.
A true visionary, Mitrani is considered an integral figure among Turkey’s close-knit community of DJs, producers, label owners and live acts. Nonetheless, it is testament to his unyielding dedication to electronic music that his talent is rightly beginning to earn the kudos it deserves outside of his motherland.
A highly technical DJ renowned for his ability to mix four tracks between analog and digital, Mitrani is also famed for his live, ‘in booth’ remixes. However, it’s his sheer eclecticism that continues to bring him to the attention of some of the scene’s most celebrated dance floors.

What music did you listen to as a child?
I started to listen music while I was 7,8 years old.I was a big fan of MJ and Bon Jovi. My family was pretty awesome because I remember on our road trips they were always ok to listen to what I love. Even house music on my 13s. I have a brother who is older than me, he was a big music lover , still is , and he was buying house music vinyls and cds , and mix tapes from other DJS. So I started to listen house music during my teenage years.
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
Around 12,13 years old, I was into artists like Lil’ Louis, Jungle Brothers, Inner City, Technotronic, Crystal Waters, Reel to Reel, Petshopboys, and many more. I was DJing at home and on the weekends, buying all that acid house vinyls and cds. And during my high school times, I was listening lots of Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, and David Morales compilations. But the real underground began during my college times when I went to Washington DC for my collage education I was introduced to raves and clubbing with so many genres from Drum and Bass, to BreakBeat to Trance and then I lived 3 years in NYC. I was very fortunate to experience the legendary TWILO with Sasha & Digweed and other GU artists. Twilo was the best DJing school and I was spending lots of time at the Satellite Records,( a vinyl store) digging new music during my weekends.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
When I was 12 or 13, We had daytime parties for kids. DJ’s were playing amazing house music, mixing tracks on vinyl.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
I have so many favorite artists; Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Depeche Mode, Sasha ,Hans Zimmer, Orbital, The Chemical Brothers, Nils Frahm, Jean Michel Jarre, Laurent Garnier, Aphex Twin, Underworld, and many more. I remember during my second year of college I was back from a Friday night rave party and listening to Depeche Mode’s Violator album on my headphones, that night I decided, I wanted to make music and learn to play some instruments, and next Monday I applied for a piano class at the university. I inspired from so many things, a track that I heard, or a movie that I watched, a conversation that I had with a friend. For me inspiration is everywhere, I always take notes or record sounds to my phone.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
Kings of Convenience – Peace or Love. It was recommended to me by one of my best friends.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
My DJ setup is simple; pair of CDJ’s and a DJM 900 Pioneer mixer. My studio setup is also very simple. I use Ableton and Logic on a Mac desktop. I am a big fan of plugins, and my fav plugins are Omnisphere, U-He’s Diva, Repro1, Hive, All Arturias, and Native’s Noir. I also use some special FX racks from Soundtoys, and Output. Love them a lot. I got the GENELEC 8341A monitors this year, I think that was the best investment I ever did for my studio 🙂
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I have an upcoming EP “MELE” from Wold Records on end of August, collaboration EP with Erdi Irmak on the Soundgarden, and a remix that I did for my good friend Wolfson’s EP “Too Late” on my label Love and Above.
Where can we hear you perform?
I have a residency in Momo Beach every Thursday Cesme Izmir Turkey, and also B Heaven in Istanbul and a monthly podcast called Love and Above. It first aired on Deeper Sounds SoundCloud page, and a week later on other streaming services.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
First of all, Thank you so much for inviting me, Balance has been a big inspiration on my music, so I am very honored and happy to be here.
I worked for about 2 months for the mix at my studio and on the road, I first test all the tracks on my pioneer CDJ setup then I finished it on Ableton. There are 3 exclusive tracks that I just finished for the podcast. The first two tracks and “Lies” (my first song that I wrote lyrics and sang with two verse and chorus.) The mix also has my couple of new unreleased tracks too. I tried to do something that feels like a compilation rather than a podcast, you are going to listen lots of beautiful melodies, a story that you can enjoy with different styles. So hard to put them into words, so please listen to it, and I hope you enjoy.
