Dense & Pika are a British electronic production/artist/DJ duo compromising of producer/DJ’s Alex Jones (Hypercolour label boss) and Chris Spero, better known to many by his Glimpse alias.
The duo first came into fruition in mid 2011 with a number of white label releases. It wasn’t long until they were noticed by Scuba and have since had multiple productions under their belt on labels such as Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, the acclaimed Hotflush imprint, and have also branched out onto the elusive Hypercolour.
The duo play at some of the best clubs around the globe including the now legendary Trouw, Berghain/Panorama Bar, Fabric, and international festivals all over the world. Gaining club support from electronic music’s finest DJ dignitaries such as Skream, Scuba, Chris Liebing, George Fitzgerald, Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Dusky and beyond for their productions.
This dynamic duo will also impress you with their high quality and eclectic DJ mix for Balance Selections…

What music did you listen to as a child?
Bobby Brown was the first cassette tape I remember being given to me by a friend of my parents, and I listened to it on repeat…
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
Listening to the Prodigy ‘Experience’, was the first time I experienced electronic music that spoke to me…
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
I saw DJ Randall & MC Fearless playing at a local club where I lived called Stages, for a night called ‘tenacious’. Luckily the area where I grew up, just outside the M25 was synonymous with the uprising of the electronic sound.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
Tyrant (Craig Richards & Lee Burridge) was the first act/mix that inspired me and still does to do what I do today.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
Koreless, I think he’s wicked check him out.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
Currently in the studio I use a lot of FM synthesis. I find it hard to tame and as such sound more future facing. examples of synths I use are the ErikaLXR and the Elektron Digitone. Re software I use omnisphere and ableton native plugins.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
We have a new EP coming on Patrick Topping‘s label TRICK. As well as lots of fresh stuff on our own Kneaded Pains Label.
Where can we hear you perform?
We have various gigs around Europe coming up…
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
It was a DJ mix off a pair of CDJ 2000’s then edited heavily in Ableton. After editing it all the tracks become bespoke.
My Recommendations
The top track in my DJ wallet currently is:
Dense & Pika – Something from Nothing (Luciid remix)
If I could recommend only one of my tracks for you to listen to it would be:
They all have their merits (well, not all of them 😂) Vomee was really the catalyst of the whole Dense & Pika project. So probs that. Colt would seem too obvious.
If I could recommend only one track for you to listen to it would be:
Prince – Bat Dance. I included it on this mix 🙂
The last movie I watched that I really liked:
Paul Blart, Mall Cop
My favourite TV show:
Love, Death & Robots – Netflix
