Deetron has remained a stalwart of contemporary house and techno for more than two decades.
The well-loved DJ and producer has released on several of the industry’s leading imprints, including Gerd Janson’s Running Back and Jeff Mills’ iconic Axis Records in recent times. Add to that collaborations with the likes of Jamiroquai, Honey Dijon and José Padilla, as well as a career that began in the late nineties, and you’ll quickly start to learn how Deetron has garnered a truly global standing in the scene.
The veteran house and techno producer now makes a long awaited return to Hot Creations. Delivering the Glass EP, it marks his first release on the label since 2012’s remix of PBR Streetgang, continuing a standout 2022 for the Character label-head.

What music did you listen to as a child?
My big musical heroes were Prince and Michael Jackson, however I got exposed to a lot of Jazz music as my dad was a professional classical and passionate Jazz musician with a great record collection.
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
I transitioned to house and electronic sounds from Hip-Hop via Hip-House. I’d hear some battle DJ’s play early Todd Terry tunes and was instantly hooked.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
Maybe not the absolutely first time I saw a DJ in a club but definitely the most impressive and memorable DJ I saw was Jeff Mills at a club called Stufenbau in Bern. It was probably in 1994 or so.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
Four Tet, Skee Mask, Anderson Paak, Flying Lotus, oh too many to mention! I’m inspired by a lot of soul music from the 70’s – early 80’s, maybe not directly for my own music but as a general point of inspiration, which always gets my creative process going.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
I really love the incredible new EP by The Gabriels, albumwise the new Omar-S record is absolutely amazing!
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
Mostly hardware these days but mixing down and processing sounds in the computer. My favorite synths are the Yamaha TX81Z, Moog Voyager and Roland JX-8P. As a DJ, Vinyl and CDJ’s.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I’m really happy that my album for Jeff Mills‘ Axis Records is now available on all the digital platforms.
Furthermore I’ve got a new EP coming on Running Back released on June 17th, which I’m really excited about, and in the fall I’ve got an EP coming up on Ilian Tape. More things to come as I really enjoy working on different projects in the studio these days.
Where can we hear you perform?
My next gig is this weekend at Sala Muv in Madrid.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
It’s a vinyl-only tribal/techno mix recorded in mid-2020, which I was planning to get out as an audio podcast for a while. I think it’s perfectly fitting this format, hope you like it!
