What music did you listen to as a child?
I grew up in a family who loves music a lot and who gives an important place to music in their day to day life. My dad always wanted to make me a singer and my mother also always supported me with my musical works. As a child I enjoyed pop music a lot and I’m also a big fan of rock music, and listened to Sri Lankan classical music as well. And, I’m a big fan of Queen and Freddie Mercury’s life story, which has inspired me a lot.
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
Back in 2006-2007 time period I started to listen to more electronic dance music sounds and all of them started with the amazing artist Avicii. From That time by listening to all kind of genres in electronic music I fall in love with Guy J’s sound. But I am not someone who being stick with a single genre and I always discover and do experiments with all kind of electronic dance music genres.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
It was a Below 21 party in a Club Called Mojo in Sri Lanka and the DJ that I’m still buzzing about in my memories is Praveen Jay from Sri Lanka. He played house music that night and brought the roof down.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
In the progressive genre I would say the maestro Guy J’s ‘Nirvana‘ and ‘Airborne‘ influenced me a lot since the day I started listening and getting into underground music. Guy’s music has always inspired me and pushed me to the groove. Avicii was also a huge inspiration with his all music back in the day, and would like to remember him here.
Queen ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘ gives me a huge motivational feeling when I’m listening and watching it every time with the live crowd feedback. London Grammar ‘Hey Now‘ and London Grammar ‘Strong‘ always calming me and opening new doors in my head for a new production.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
I bought the Last track from Volen Sentir – Mimoraya on Anjunadeep. This duo is one of my favourites.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
I’m basically a bedroom producer and my setup is very Simple. But, my Studio room is on the way. At this moment I’m using my desktop and an audio interface with a M Audio midi keyboard. I use DT990 Pro headphones for monitors.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
In December there will be another track from my own label and two remixes are on the way. Working on more originals in the next year and a few collaborations also happening with my fellow artists. Among the collaborations, an EP with Emi Galvan is my favourite at the moment, and hopefully it will come out next year.
Where can we hear you perform?
I have another two gigs in Sri Lanka until 19th November and then touring to India and Pakistan till the 30th December. And I will continue a radio show with a leading FM radio station in Sri Lanka from January 2023 onwards .
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
First of all I really enjoyed making this podcast since I havent done a mixtape for a long time and I’m happy that I could manage to do this since Balance Series is one of my favourites. I made the mixtape with playing 1 hour using Traktor Pro and I always using mixing software rather than a DAW to make mixes. This podcast includes tracks that I produced, and some are unreleased yet.
