Munich based producer Julian Wassermann is one of the most respected within the melodic house and deep techno scene.
As a resident DJ at Harry Klein (Munich) and numerous appearances in clubs like Watergate (Berlin) at festivals like Pleinvrees (Amsterdam) and SEMF (Stuttgart), Wassermann’s energetic and eclectic sets always have an impact on the dancefloor.
As a producer, Julian made his international breakthrough collaborating with Florian Kruse on the techno single ‘Gotland‘, which was released on Kompakt (Speicher). The release featured in many Top 10 charts in the scene, and was supported by leading DJs such as Adam Beyer, Tale of Us, Kölsch and Joris Voorn to name a few…
His other releases were also very successful – ‘Surreal‘, for example, already counts more than 3 million streams on Spotify, and was amongst numerous others, in the playlist of Deadmau5.
Julian’s productions have featured on quality labels such as Watergate, Stil vor Talent, Suara, Last Night On Earth, and Terminal M, making him one of the most successful producers in the scene.

What music did you listen to as a child?
When I was a kid, my Father and I used to have disco nights in our music room. We had a disco ball and mattresses on the floor. I remember songs by Michael Jackson.
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
It was ‘What Is Love‘ by Haddaway, I heard the single for the first time from my Uncle and was totally hooked. I bought the CD afterwards with my pocket money.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
My Uncle used to have a disco, and I was allowed to “join in the party” when I was about 8 years old.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
I am huge fan of Eric Prydz and his great side projects of CIREZ D and Pryda. Also really liking Bonobo, Moderat, Bicep, and RÜFÜS DU SOL, to name a few.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
‘Fragments’ by Bonobo, which is an excellent piece of art. I went for a lot of walks last year with my son in the pram, and I listened to the whole album.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
My studio setup as mixture of analog hardware and digital stuff, with Ableton live as DAW. I am mixing and mastering my songs with Tegeler Crème, SPL Tube Vitalizer and the API 5500 EQ and the mixer Arthur Prime by Schertler. Regarding DJ set up the Xone96 or Model 1 are my fav. mixers. In my home studio I have the Model 1.4 with 2 pairs of Denon SC6000M.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I have an EP on Balance Music coming up, along with 3 new remixes and a new single ‘Invisible‘ in the pipeline. Apart from that, I’m just starting new productions again, and planning my next release on my label Vishn.
Where can we hear you perform?
Next shows are Fridas Pier (Stuttgart), Ritter Butzke (Berlin) and Club Cubique (Innsbruck).
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
The mix was recorded live in my studio with the Model 1.4 and the Denon SC6000M players. In total it was over 1 hour recording, final mixing polish, and recording the introduction speech.
