What music did you listen to as a child?
I grew up listening to a wide variety of music ranging from classical Mozart to Deep Purple. My mom played a lot of piano at home and I recall my older sister introducing me to Shakira and Céline Dion. During road trips, we would play Elton John and Joe Dassin, one of the greats in France. I was also exposed to latin music when I grew up since my mom is from Peru, and later as I started ballroom dancing in my teenage years.
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
Funny enough I fell in love with electronic music during my years as a ballet dancer. Sometimes we could create choreographies on the track of our choice and Daft punk was always top of my list. From there I had my dubstep and EDM phase and fell in love with melodic techno when I started mixing.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
I can’t remember the first DJ I saw but I do recall (at least most of it) going to clubs where mainstream music was playing on loop. After my club phase, I was lucky to be in Montreal where I became a regular at Piknik Electronik and Salon Daomé. That’s when I really fell in love with electronic music.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
I had different phases in my beginnings from Ben Bohmer to Bebetta. Eelke Kleijn is also someone that inspires me a lot lately.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
I can’t remember the last time I bought an entire album, didn’t know people still did that! Jokes aside, it’s rare I download a full album but instead save the songs that resonate the most with me in the moment. My music library is very eclectic and I love it like that.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
I produce entirely on my MacBook and that’s probably due to being on the road a lot. I’m a big user of samples and there is so much you can do with just a computer.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
Working on a bunch of new music at the moment, you should hear some new material pretty soon.
Where can we hear you perform?
My next gig is in my hometown Montreal (Always special to play at home 🙂 ). I’ll be performing alongside Anjunadeep artists for an Igloofest after-party, one of my favorite festivals on the planet. I’ll also be hitting the road a lot over the next few weeks going from San Francisco to Albania!
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
With my good old Traktor S2 that I’ve been using since I first started DJing.
