What music did you listen to as a child?
It was about the mid 90s when i started to be more interested in the electronic side of music, with early influences by Francois K, Jeff Mills, UR, and the American side of House and Techno in general, on the non dance floor side, it was all about Depeche Mode back in those days.
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
I was about 10 years old when my older sister used to come by our parents house for our traditional Friday dinners, and tell me all about her latest club experience from last night (in Tel Aviv they used to party on Thursdays back in the days, still are actually). I was fascinated about it and was looking forward for her stories all week, it was a new story every Friday and i never got enough from it. Right after our conversations I used to run and look for whatever I can find about those DJs she was listening to in the club the night before.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
it was pretty common back then to party from a very young age on youth parties on holidays, those were include DJs and clubs as well, but it wasn’t before the age of 14-15 when an older friend of mine took me to Tel Aviv for a proper club night in the famous Alenbi 58, my first adult mega club, where the DJ was the main act/subject of the night. I think it was either Tony De Vit or Derrick May were playing, if I’m not mistaken.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
Back in the late 90s beginning of 2000s I was very much on the Techno side of things and influenced, it was all about Jeff Mills, Mike Banks and the rest of the Detroit crew, but still the funky side of Carl Cox or the minimal side of Josh Wink, which pretty much helped to shape and influence my musical journey. Classic House DJs as Frankie Knuckles and Danny Tenaglia were also pretty big inspiration for me me as a music lover.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
Thom Yorke and more Thom Yorke. Anything from him is always on my latest list.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
In the studio I’m working mostly with analog hardwares, so the set up is pretty much always on recording mode directly from the analog chain to the computer, which is the only digital machine im actually using in the process.
On the DJ side, I’m a Pioneer mixer guy, I prefer it than the Xone, as I find the Pioneer mixers more suitable for my fast and furious mixing style,
3 x CDJs and 2 x turntables are a must as well on the spread. I don’t use anymore any FX machines for DJ’ing as too many DJs using them these days and I find it uninspired, but I do always have 1 channel from the CDs with loops that I pre-create of either white noses, rides, claps etc…, and I use them as a constant 3rd channel on my mixes.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I have a pretty exciting EP coming up on Chris Liebing’s CLR records, to be released in late August, Our previews collaboration was the best selling techno track or 2022/23 so far, and I’m looking forward to see how this new release will be perceived as its a bit different from the previews one.
I also have an EP together on my Be As One label on September with one of my favourite producers at the moment, the Berlin based Kashpitzky, 3 tracks of real old meets new skool techno. Either then that I have a fast and hard remix coming up very soon to one of my all time favourite techno classics, which I can’t announce just yet, but it’s going to hit right on the spot.
Where can we hear you perform?
My wife and I just had a new-born baby couple of months ago and I’m taking this summer slightly calmer than normal, I will keep the travels to minimum till October to be here and take part in this beautiful thing we created, but I will still be doing some shows closer to home and mainly in Spain.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
I always struggle when it comes to mixes, I always was against the one minded djs that just know how to do the one thing, I’m trying to be versatile DJ when it comes to techno and i like and play long and extended all night sets, may it be more funky techno, old school, hard, minimal, or tribal but always keeping it underground, groovy and rumbling, that being said, squeeze it all into an hour mix is an impossible task.
This mix contain 24 Tracks in 60 minutes of music, all playing on top of each other in fast and aggressive mixing over 4 decks, trying to a give a little taste of different type of Techno I like and playing out in my shows.
My Recommendations
The top track in my DJ wallet currently is:
That’s just an impossible question to answer. I’m playing allot of upcoming music from the label and myself or demos from artists and choosing in between them all are almost impossible. So much good music out there, but here is one my most played tracks in the past year.
Kashpitzky – I Got This
If I could recommend only one of my tracks for you to listen to it would be:
Normally I would go with something that fits better my current mood as my ‘Another Dimension‘, or ‘That’s the Way I Speak‘, but since we already posted them up on the latest releases, I’ll go here with one of my personal favourite classic, released on Len Faki’s Figure label few years back.
Shlomi Aber – Under Two Worlds
If I could recommend only one track for you to listen to it would be:
Any track from the Thom Yorke ‘The Eraser’ Album, they are all just cross genres and mind bending.
The last movie I watched that I really liked:
‘The Way They See Us‘ on Netflix or ‘Joker‘ with Joaquin Phoenix are both breathtaking. Also HACKSAW RIDGE, it’s the extraordinary true story of WWII medic Desmond Doss that just sticks with you, and tells an incredible story of unbiased bravery.
My favourite TV show:
Im pretty much a TV Shows addicted, saw probably anything good out there, can’t fall a sleep without knowing out few chapters. The Sopranos, and Seinfeld are stealing the top when it comes to classics, but there are a lot more recent shows that are surprisingly great as Peaky Blinders, Veep, Mad Men, This is Us, Modern Family, and so many more.
