A techno storm is brewing in Barcelona – and its name is Shall Ocin. ..
Over the last 3 years Shall Ocin has been on a roll with some huge productions, culminating in him becoming a highly valued member of Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio stable. Not only is his productions filled with laser precision engineering, but his melodies draw inspiration from a subconscious space which only a lucky few inhabit. (Check the busy, care-free structure on ‘Tribute to Summertime’, or the almost stern-like melodic charge of ‘Forgive Me’) Recently the producer made headlines with the launch of his brand new label Clash Lion, anticipation stretched to its limits due to the label’s debut track which featured the return of Maetrik (ICYDK who that is, it’s Maceo Plex’s highly popular techno alter ego). Quite the coup…
On Balance Selections 57 Shall feature 4 tracks from his label Clash Lion alongside tracks form Maetrik, Fur Coat, Isolee, Fort Romeau and more. Brace yourself for some serious dancefloor action…

My last 3 releases:
What music did you listen too as a child?
We always listened to a lot of music at home, especially classical music and Brazilian music. Two of my siblings are also professional musicians: my older sister is a soprano singer and my brother is a professional guitar player. So there was always some music around at home, someone practicing, etc…
When was the first time that you realized that you liked electronic music?
In 1998 some friends bought two turntables and some techno and drum’n’bass records and they called me to check them out. I was shocked with the innovation power of electronic music, it put together music and technology, two things that I was liked since i was a child. This was the beginning of a big adventure that had no end so far.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
I can’t recall exactly what was the first time I was in an electronic music party, but it was in Cordoba, Argentina, where I was born and lived. One of the first DJs I saw was Chelo Scotti, he was the first DJ I followed, trying to check him playing every time he had a gig around. The parties were really underground and some of them were private… He soon moved to Hamburg, Germany, and became the resident of the Golden Pudel Club.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
There are hundreds of innovative and talented people that have inspired me all these years, too many to name. James Holden for sure was a producer that always inspired me, with his ability to create different atmospheres and sensations from a totally new and creative point of view.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
The Maceo Plex album was the last one I bought, it’s very good and very well produced, It has many ideas and textures that sounded new and fresh to me.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
For the DJ set I use the CDJs, some Boss effect units (delay/reverb) and two Pioneer RMX1000. I left the vinyls behind because it was too hard to travel with them. In my studio I use a modular system I am developing with my father (he is a electric engineer), Korg MS20, Moog Sub 37, Access Virus, Drum Machines, etc… I also use software, of course, to create some ideas in a fast and intuitive way.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I have just started my own label, Clash Lion Records, with my friends Terr and Daniel Watts. In the end of November we’ll release our second EP, that is my new EP, Bounty Hunter. I am also working on a lot of remixes and new tracks, as always.
Where can we hear you perform?
Some of my next gigs are Watergate (Berlin), Kremlin (Lisboa) and Yamamoru Tengu (Dublin)
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
I made the podcast in my computer, as I am in the middle of a big tour in South America, always on the move… The podcast begins with an unreleased version of my track ‘Swallow‘, and it has an unreleased version of my remix for KCPK and the new tracks I’ll release for Clash Lion. I made the podcast in one afternoon, I think the first ideas usually are the best ones.
