My mum was always quite musical, playing instruments and listening to more folky stuff, which I never really got into. I was more into “angry girl music,” with Alanis Morissette being my first concert as a young teen. I also loved bands like Garbage and No Doubt. When I started getting into electronic music, I gravitated towards artists like The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Moby, Basement Jaxx, The Avalanches, B(if)tek, and Sonic Animation.
I can’t pinpoint a specific moment when I realized I was into electronic music. As a kid, I learned piano, drums, and guitar and was always trying to get my friends to start a band, though that never really worked out. That’s what drew me to techno—making it was something I could do solo without relying on anyone else.
Wetmusik used to throw underage raves, and I remember going to my first one at Storey Hall when I was about 14. That’s what initially got me into techno. After that, I took DJ lessons with Will E Tell, which really solidified my passion for the genre.
I’ve always been drawn to darker, melodic, and organic electronica, with artists like James Holden, Jon Hopkins, Nathan Fake, Rival Consoles, Daphni, Four Tet, Trentmøller, Max Cooper, Acid Arab, Mongolian Jet Set, Throwing Snow, Rob Clouth, Dark Sky, and Moderat being some of my favorites. Local artists like Osopho and Charles Oliver, whom I’ve worked with, also inspire me constantly.
The last album I downloaded was the remix package for Timmus, which I’m featured on—so I guess that counts! Technically, the last album I purchased was a birthday gift for someone (Rammstein), but that’s not really my thing. Lately, I’ve had the Glass Beams EP on repeat, and after seeing them live recently, I’m even more hooked.
I mainly produce “in the box” using Ableton, and I recently got a new computer, which has been exciting because I can finally update all my plugins (I refused to update my old computer, which was nearly 10 years old). Although, transitioning to a new setup has been a bit of a nightmare. I started DJing with vinyl as a teenager, but now I’m on CDJs and bought a pair last year. I had won a set as a teen, but they didn’t have USB functionality and became useless, so I got rid of them—meaning I hadn’t had decks in over 15 years! It’s nice to be able to practice again.
I actually have a track out today! It’s a rework of a track I released a few years ago called Dusk, and I’ve done a more upbeat breaks version of it. I also have a collaboration with Osopho and Max Lawrence coming out on October 10th called Eternal, which includes a remix I did. Both mixes are included in this set, along with a remix for Timmus that will be out soon as well. You can check out Dusk (Rework) here.
No gigs coming up atm but I do a monthly radio show for Reform Radio.
It’s a collection of 45 of my favorite tracks, featuring classics I’ve been playing for years alongside brand-new releases, plus some of my own unreleased music. The mix is filled with melodic, ethereal sounds, ethnotronica, left-field techno, and broken beats.
I didn’t actually include this in my Balance mix but I have been adding it to my sets again lately – it’s an oldie but a goodie:
My collab with Osopho and also the track I ended my Balance mix with is probably my fave:
I could have this track on repeat forever:
The last movie I saw at the cinema was Poor Things, I think I liked it, fucking weird but the outfits were great.
I’ve been rewatching some older shows lately, was recently binge watching House, loved that.
Well I’ve been to Thailand about 8 times so I guess that’s gotta be up there.
