What music did you listen too as a child?
I grew up listening to Dance, Pop, Rap, Metal and anything in between really. Being a kid in the 80’s it was mainly the likes of Prince, George Michael, Madonna, Pet Shop Boys, David Bowie, Soul II Soul and Public Enemy and Metallica to name a few…
When was the first time that you realized that you liked electronic music?
I was hooked a kid! A lot of electronic music was played in my house. As a kid, mum listened to dance music and that had a big influence on me. Hip and Acid-House were my first real introduction to the world of electronic music.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
I think it might have been Paul Holden (rest his soul) or Peewee Ferris, possibly at Sydney’s legendary Kinselas club in the early 90’s. Both amazing DJ’s! I remember DJ’s at the time would play lengthy sets, controlling the dance floor the entire night, taking everyone on a journey thru different genres. The night I saw Peewee at Kinselas, he played for about 6 hours and seamlessly mixed around House, Techno, Trance and Rave. It was Insane! Then I saw Paul “Flex” Taylor for the first time spinning records in a friend’s basement under their house. Watching him was mesmerising and blew me away. Paul had such a big influence on me – he changed my approach to DJ’ing forever.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
This question is always hard. Because there are so many! Here’s some that come to mind first… Danny Howells. I feel connected with him musically and love his DJ style. I’ve also always been inspired by Sasha, John Digweed, James Zabiela, Steve Rachmad, Terry Francis, Eddie Richards, DJ Harvey, Pure Science, DBridge and Bent. The list goes on… Currently playing loads of tunes by Jimpster, Kink, Nightmares On Wax, Will Saul, Ian Pooley, Mr.G and Uone.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
Nightmares On Wax – Back To Mine.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
For production I use Ableton. To mix at home I use Traktor and records. I have 4 Technics 1200’s, 2 Vestax mixers, 2 Macbooks and 4 M-Audio speakers.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I’ve been working on some new tunes with good friend and longtime production partner Matt Rowan. We’ve finished a few and currently looking around for suitable labels. One of our tracks ’Impossibles’ I featured on my Ministry Of Sound ‘Rebirth’ DJ mix compilation last year. I also have a few of my own projects that I hope to get out there 2019.
Where can we hear you perform?
2019 will be my first time playing at the Mountain Sounds Festival in Feb and Rabbits Eat Lettuce in April. I’ll also be playing gigs in Bali and Fiji through the year. In Sydney, you can catch me regularly at one of my residencies. Goodbar, Sneaky Sunday’s (Bucketlist) and By Your Side events. I have some other cool gigs coming up at Club 77, Civic Underground, S.A.S.H, Flamingo Lounge and Blueprint.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for
I approached the podcast with an open mind and cherry picked tunes that I think are fun, interesting and have individual uniqueness. Then I found a pattern and feeling that worked and kinda built the mix from there. I’m really happy with how the mix came together and hope you enjoy!
