Juan Pablo Torrez Spotify Playlist: The Inspiration Behind His Latest Production.
The recent four-track EP release from Kamilo Sanclemente is a banger. It not only introduced three new artists to our roster but also highlighted the fertility of the South American scene. Particularly, Colombia is a thriving hotspot of progressive talent. One of these artists is Juan Pablo Torrez.
Originally from Cali, Colombia, and now residing in Medellín, the “City of Eternal Spring,” Torrez is one of the country’s leading lights. Raised on a diet of classic electronic music spun by DJs from Danny Howells to Sasha/Digweed, and of course, Hernan Cattaneo, Torrez also dabbled in other classic sounds of the time, including trance and techno.
This variety ensured his style remains versatile today. That energy is evident in his label, Clubsonica, arguably one of the country’s most well-known progressive imprints, which to date has signed a variety of the scene’s brightest talent like Rocio Portillo and past Balance alumni Mike Griego.
Juan Pablo Torrez’s Spotify Selections and Their Impact on ‘Space Distortion’
His recent collaboration with Sanclemente on Balance, “Space Distortion,” is a deep, yet tense and taut gem that pays homage to the more serious end of the progressive spectrum. It’s a track we described upon release as ‘a more solemn workout that qualifies as deep progressive’.
We asked the producer what he was listening to around the time of the EP’s production, and he provided a strong list of ten underground dance tracks that is filled to the brim with dancefloor bombs.
