Kamilo Sanclemente showcase his distinctive approach to intricate textures and melodies alongside 3 gun producers.
We shift our attention to South America for a distinctly Latin American-flavoured release. Following his ‘Horizons‘ single, included in the recent Balance presents Dave Seaman & Quivver compilation, Kamilo Sanclemente returns with a fully-fledged 4-track EP. Joining him are three of his Colombian countrymen to deliver one of the more dynamic EPs we’ve released to date.
Theia: a ride into inner space
First up is Kamilo Sanclemente‘s solo single ‘Theia‘. It’s a deliciously effervescent tech ride to an inner space rich with imagination. Clever FX fizzles underneath a rubbery elastic bassline which threatens to unravel at any moment. It’s all held together by energetic drums propelling towards a breakdown that introduces a galactic speech sample and Detroit Techno chords. This is the work of a man at the top of his game.
On ‘Space Distortion‘, Kamilo teams up with Medellín-based Juan Pablo Torrez for a more solemn workout that qualifies as deep progressive. Here, the bass feels almost flipped, a semi-rising tone that tightens as the cycle progresses. Distant wails float against an ascending synth, bubbling into existence as the drums hypnotically edge towards the breakdown. There, the tension cranks towards a taut drop and explodes into a satisfying melodic mist
Velvety dancefloor bombs
Mauro Aguirre joins Kamilo on ‘Essence‘, a driving workout that makes its intentions clear from the opening beat. Simplicity is key here: the deep two-finger bass underlines an analogue Giorgio Moroder-style synth carrying determined indie dance drums. The intensity is undeniable. But once the clouds clear in the breakdown, an absolute blissful melody appears like a rainbow to clear the senses. Approach with caution; this is a dancefloor bomb.
‘Redemtion‘, a collaboration between Kamilo and Giovanny Aparicio, rounds out the package. You will feel this deep house-flavoured cut on many levels. The infusion of low humming bass and the round beach ball kick make for a delightful physical experience. On the other end, the ethereal synths, charming vocal stabs, and developing melodic keys massage the spirit. Velvet smooth and organically blissful.
