Italy’s Luca Bacchetti has in some shape or form been involved in the music industry since 1992.
His experience is evident in the professionalism, and unique sound that he pushes. His earlier EP releases on labels like Tenax, Wagon Repair, and Ovum, have led to signings for other quality imprints that include Crosstown Rebels, All Day I Dream, and Bedrock. In 2013 Luca started his own label, and created the now highly respected ENDLESS Recordings, which boasts tracks from buzz artist like Trikk, Eagles & Butterflies, Love Over Entropy, and, of course, there are releases from Bacchetti himself. As a DJ, he is also a renowned selector, and has played in over 80 countries at the world’s best clubs, and festivals such as Burning Man, Panorama Bar, and fabric.
This coming September Bacchetti will release his debut LP ‘Secret World’ on his own imprint, alongside several remixes, and two new EPs, with one of them being released on the Japanese label Endless Flight.
On this mix for Balance, Bacchetti delivers a contemporary soundscape of house, and techno that takes in Damon Jee, Jimi Jules, Lauer and more.

What music did you listen too as a child?
Probably on the Radio and TV. I was a kid and I remember this four-piece band with silver shaven heads, the Rockets. I was a child and asked myself whether they dressed like that and wore make-up at home too! My parents weren’t’ musicians but they understood that music was something important to me, they started buying instruments and at the age of 7 I started playing clarinet and trumpet.
When was the first time that you realized that you liked electronic music?
It was when I discovered hip hop, back in 1988. At home we always had cassette tapes, but the first actual LP I bought was the Beastie Boys‘ Paul’s Boutique. I really liked the sleeve cover and my dream was to go to New York. Obviously their music was great too: this is still one of the most influential records of the century.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
The first time was probably a local dj in one of the commercial clubs close to my village, unfortunately I was born in a very weird place, no underground clubs, records stores or recording studios and no internet at that time! Can you believe it? I had to drive few hours to get to Florence, I remember when I saw DJ Harvey at Tenax club, I was impressed by his music, I still remember he was wearing a simple tee and worn Converse all-stars shoes… such a humble guy.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
It’s difficult to answer this question because first of all I’m a music lover, I’ve always listened to different genres… in the techno / house scene I would say DJ Koze, I love his work, I also love Jon Hopkins, the list is endless!
Regarding inspiration, It may happen that an idea arrives suddenly from nowhere, according to an unknown dynamic, on other occasions the fact that there is a precise reason brings it all onto a more rational plane, although it’s the way we filter the information that makes us unique.
It’s my belief that any person can find inspiration from anything: a painting, a film a book, the body of a beautiful woman, some music of course! A child at play, a trip… There are some things that inevitably touch you to the core and which you’re bound to respond to. This happens to me too, I appreciate the beauty of all that stimulates me most. The artist puts all of himself in what he does and even if he wanders from his specific field it’s still about honesty and coherence. I’ll give you an example, maybe a ridiculous one: many artists and producers who I admire have really interesting visions on their Instagram profiles… other’s profiles are empty, just as their music is empty. It’s about the way you see things, and I’m fully convinced there is a connection.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
I’m buying music almost every day. I buy digital hi-resolution files or vinyls if what I’m looking for isn’t available digitally. I also love to discover and listen to new music on Spotify, the good thing of Spotify is the algorithm which suggests you new music based on your listening activity. But everywhere I go I still love to buy vinyls, records that I listen at home when I’m not touring. The last album on vinyl I bought is Pharoah Sanders ‘Elevations’, a must have!
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
I work mostly in the box and I mix my own songs. The analog world fascinates me but I have always preferred that certain comfort, the one that allows you to make music anywhere with just a few essentials. I always like to say that my studio is mainly in my head, it’s all about the way I assemble ideas. I used to work with Logic but I’ve been using Ableton Live for more than 10 year now, UAD Apollo, Push 2, Waves plugins, NI Komplete and few analog drum machines from Arturia, Korg and of course Roland. Lately I’ve put my hands again on the legendary SH-101 and new modular systems, really fascinating machines.. in general I always try to avoid to use old synths or drums, nowadays softwares are offering endless possibilities if you are looking for a more contemporary sound. I’m Djing with 4 CDJ 2000 NXS 2 using Record box, I love the sound of Allen & Heath and Rane Mixers.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I’ve already released 3 remixes this year and another one will be out late April. In May I have a 3 tracker EP on the Japanese ENDLESS FLIGHT (Mule) and in September I will release my first album on ENDLESS, it’s a completely different work, 13 songs recorded in a bungalow nestled in the living mountain forest of il Ciocco in Tuscany where I’ve collaborated with really talented musicians: Stefano Onorati, Andrea Guzzoletti and Leo Di Angilla. During the recording sessions I had to leave for a time to go on tour in Asia. In Bali I happened to meet a couple of Rindik musicians who were playing in the lobby of the hotel I was staying in, so I invited them to the room and we recorded some tracks that then ended up on a song of the album. To tell a story is the intent of this record. My muse has been the awareness, fruit of all my experiences over these years and of how they have been filtered and conditioned by my being ‘Italian’ and, above all, a son of this Tuscan landscape. I have more EPs coming out in the fall, 2019 is definitely the most prolific year on the production side and I cannot stop!
Where can we hear you perform?
Around the world, 5 continents, this is why I love my job.
I’ve never had a residency but I like the idea to have an every 2 months residency and curate the calendar, I would have so many great artists to invite. DON’T FORGET THE MOON! is the podcast of my label ENDLESS, we have a guest every month at full moon.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
One take! Mixed live with Allen & Heath 92, 2 CDJ 2000 and 2 Technics 1200 since I’ve played some new vinyls too.. forgive some little imperfections, perfection is boring ! : )
