Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Petar Dundov’s career in dance music stretches back the best part of 20 years, and over the course of the journey he has notably developed a longstanding relationship with Belgium’s legendary techno label, Music Man records, where he has released many singles and albums.
Petar Dundov makes intelligent electronic music that breaks boundaries, moves feet and twists minds. He is without a doubt one of the most inspiring, original and daring producers in electronica, and with the likes of Sven Väth, Francois K, Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, and Danny Tenaglia amongst his fans, it would be hard to disagree.
He has also graced many of the world’s most prestigious and best-loved techno institutions – including mega-festivals such as I Love Techno, and Awakenings, to cutting-edge clubs like Berghain, Womb, Fuse and Space.
Whether it be in his productions or DJ sets, the word “techno” probably doesn’t give enough detail about his style, but, it’s definitely the principle his music adheres to – and he has always been keen to expand the horizons of what people know, and expect of the genre.

What music did you listen to as a child?
My parents were into disco music, so from early days I was surrounded by Bee Gees, Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer etc…
When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
At some point, a friend of mine introduced me to Kraftwerk, and I fell in love with electronic sound. I started to explore the genre, digging in to stuff from Vangelis, Jean Michelle Jarre, and Klaus Shcultze. There was this futuristic vision embedded in the music and I was a big SF fan, so it all came together somehow.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
First time I heard DJ in a club was in Spain when we went to High school graduation trip. I dont remember his name, but he played this new sound that people called techno. I liked it so much that when we came back home I went straight to record store.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
My favourite artist is Vangelis. Just all the music he did, for me, sounds divine. The first time I heard his music, was in the movie ‘Chariots of Fire’. Later, he did Blade Runner, and I was hooked. Another thing what inspires me, is walking my dog. There is something meditative in that, and my mind starts to drift usually producing sounds.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
Giorgia Angiuli – In a Pink Bubble. Great album, I got the promo a while ago and still listening to it.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
My studio set up is mostly hardware based. I collected many analogue synths through the years, and still working on console mixer. My favourite synth is Roland System 100M, but I also use software synths, and plugins.
DJ’ing wise, I play it all, from vinyl, to laptop, and CDs, but currently USB on CDJs, and depending on the gig, I still bring vinyl with me.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
I have new EP coming out on Proton Music in the fall. Also new remixes will be out soon for Huminal, and Michael Forzza. I also have a collaboration with Gregor Tresher, we will have new EP on Sci-Tec coming out this winter.
Where can we hear you perform?
My next gig is in Zagreb, and it will stay like this until the virus allows us to travel to other locations. We booked a lot of festivals this year, but seems like everything will move to 2021. Meanwhile, I will post podcasts from time to time on my Soundcloud page to keep the fans happy.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
I did it over my summer break, most of the time I spent on music selection. I am happy that I found some great tracks from Nox Vahn, Joal, and Quivver. I mixed everything live on my laptop using Traktor.
