BEC is an energetic techno talent who has risen to the top in a very short space of time.
She was scouted by Pan Pot for their influential Second State label from her very first release, then snapped up by Carl Cox’s Intec, and also Adam Beyer‘s Drumcode imprint.
Not only has she put out her music on their labels, BEC has also toured with them at showcases everywhere from Burning Man to Tobacco Dock and Warehouse Project.
Add in solo tours of North & South America, Asia, India and Europe, along with much talked about sets at Fabrik Madrid, Watergate Berlin, and Sunwaves Romania, you have one of techno’s brightest contemporary stars who is set to continue as one of the genre’s most exiting talents.

When was the first time that you realised that you liked electronic music?
I grew up on the coast of England close to Brighton. There were illegal raves there that I first started going to when I was pretty young. One of the first super memorable events I went to was Fatboy Slim on Brighton beach with thousands of people. I must’ve been pretty young, maybe 15 years old. I then used to sneak up to London to go to Fabric and events at Matter in the o2. I was first into Drum and Bass, and Dubstep music (of course – being English!) but, that quickly progressed to Techno.
When was the first time you saw a DJ in a club?
Wow not sure I can remember the exact first time! But I can talk about the first times I went to Fabric. I just remember feeling the incredible sound system – Room One has special bass monitors that allow you to actually feel the sub frequencies in your body. I remember feeling moved by that experience and that club! I used to hang around afterwards for the lock-ins that followed after the event had finished.
Which producers/artists/acts inspire you?
One of my main idols is Laurent Garnier. Others include Future Sounds Of London, Luke Slater, Chris Liebing, DJ Bone, Nico, Awex… And many more that aren’t producing techno like Hiroshi Yoshimura, Brian Eno, AFX, & Alva Noto.
What was the last album that you downloaded/bought?
The last album that I loved is by Lomea and it’s called ‘Echoes In Bloom‘. I really love his style as he fuses quite a unique combination of sounds together, including electronic with acoustic music.
What is your current production and DJ set up like?
I have my studio at Riverside studios in Berlin. I absolutely love my studio and easily get lost in time in there! I have quite a few machines – from the Roland TR8-s and Elektron Analog RYTM drum machines to the Digitone synth, Vermona PERfourmermer, and Roland SE-02. I DJ on Pioneer CDJs, because they are super easy when I travel for gigs. Every club is equipped with them.
What releases do you have on the horizon?
My next EP is called ‘Pleasure Seeker’ and will be released on Second State along with a remix by label heads Pan-Pot on the 23rd April!
Where can we hear you perform?
As we all know, gigs are pretty much on hold right now due to the pandemic :-(! I have some festivals and events scheduled for September but let’s see if these end up going ahead! Which includes my debut at Awakenings Festival in Holland will be on the 11th September.
Tell us more about the podcast you made for Balance?
I recorded the mix live in the DJ room at Riverside studios. I’m really happy with the mix and hope you like it too! You can hear the Pan-Pot remix of my new track ‘Pleasure Seeker’ which is shortly followed by the original version – Not usually something I’d do, mixing a remix directly with the original track. But somehow it seemed to work well! Enjoy!
