As one half of Drunken Kong, D. Singh is no stranger to the progressive house scene. Now, he steps out under a new solo project, D-Shift. For his debut outing on Balance Music, he delivers two finely tuned cuts of progressive house that bode well for this new chapter.
Lead cut ‘Find a Way’ draws on the genre’s classic foundations, built around a warm vocal sample and bubbling synths. A beautifully measured breakdown opens the track up, as melodic layers gather around the vocal before the groove locks back into place.
It’s A-grade dancefloor material, with enough presence to become the defining moment of a set.
On the optimistic ‘Hikari’, a rolling bassline drives the track forward with an infectious low-end pulse that will be difficult to ignore on the dancefloor. A stretched vocal sample drifts across uplifting melodic keys, creating a genuine feeling of space and freedom.
In Japanese, hikari means “light”, a word often associated with hope, positivity and clarity. It’s a fitting title for a track that channels those exact qualities.
