Three Tracks That Shaped D-Shift’s Musical Outlook…
Behind every artist’s sound is a collection of records that sparked their curiosity, challenged their thinking and inspired them to create something of their own.
For the latest edition of Formative Frequencies, we welcome D-SHIFT, the solo project of Dee Singh, best known as one half of electronic duo Drunken Kong.
On his recent Balance Music debut, the two-track Find a Way EP, D-SHIFT delivered two finely tuned cuts of progressive house, each packing enough weight and presence to become a defining moment in any DJ set.
But what helped shape that sound? Here, D-SHIFT takes us through three influential tracks and explains why they’ve stayed with him.
Explore his selections below.

Underworld
Rez
(1994)
The first time I heard this track I was blown away by the synth hook. That instant, addictive synth hook was something so new to me.
Also, the punchy, tribal drum beat fits so well with the synth.
Simple but very powerful.

Glen Morrison
Circles
(2007)
Dark, mysterious, and deeply atmospheric, this track just hits the spot for me.
I also really like that it combines a heavy, tribal feel bassline with an emotional chord melody that just pulls you right in.

Christian Smith feat. John Selway
Transit Time (Dubfire Remix)
(2007)
I have always been a big fan of Christian Smith and Dubfire and this track is one of the reason why.
Super clean and stripped down, with a perfect rolling groove that keeps you locked in.
This track has really inspired me to produced groove-oriented tracks.
