From the Lebanese capital to his adopted home in Dubai, Bachir Salloum has made quite a name for himself across the Middle East and upon the global underground dance scene. Returning to Balance Music, he delivers the sparkling ‘Never Landing‘ EP.
A seasoned performer alongside the DJ glitterati of Sasha, Joris Voorn and Lee Burridge, Bachir Salloum is as comfortable behind the decks as he is in the studio. A familiar face in Beirut’s club scene before relocating to and shining in Dubai, Bachir’s innovative blend of progressive, deep and organic house have seen almost a century of production credits grace some of the finest modern imprints. Earthly Delights, Dream Culture and appearances on Armen Miran’s Hoomidaas, have cemented his growing reputation.
The title track opener sees ‘Never Landing‘ immediately impress with a chunky percussive groove that clicks and fizzes with popcorn exploding energy. A rich bass sequence adds to the rhythmic collage before a beautiful blend of arpeggiated melodies filter smoothly into sonic range. Evolving effortlessly over 8-minutes, the track gradually blossoms into an epic wall of sound that shimmers around a sumptuous revolving chord sequence.
The darker vibe of ‘Binary Vision‘ is centred around a hefty kick and ticking 16th hi-hat pattern while a sub-bass groove syncopates with rhythm and cadenced synth. Developing easily, an array of melodies build in hypnotic fashion across the piece as the track rises to a crescendo before dropping away in the final stages.
The subtly deeper impression created by ‘Escape Tunnel‘, revels in a closer and less expansive sound palette. Through a seething dancefloor powerhouse, spellbinding rhythms and cavernous bassline framework provide the sonic characteristics that aptly resonate with the title. Building to a rousing finale as we reach the end of the “tunnel”, an immaculately crafted synth line displays chinks of light as it shines delicately through.
Redolent in Bachir’s trademark production techniques and immaculate production, ‘White Samurai’ is a spine-tingling combination of rhythmic and bassline gravitas that drives forward with sinister force. Pitched synths and acetylene-edged lead scythes through the mid-range, ably abetted by a cast of mesmerising synth lines that add to the dark and dynamic character.
