Alice Iguchi showcase her educated ear for quality underground progressive…
Alice Iguchi, a Tokyo-born DJ now based in Brooklyn, channels a lifetime of cross-cultural influences into her hypnotic, shape-shifting sets. Since arriving in New York in 2015, she has carved out a space in the city’s underground house and techno scene, emerging as a quietly distinctive voice. Early encounters with jazz, teenage years playing guitar in Tokyo rock bands, and a deep affinity for the experimental soundscapes of Radiohead and Björk have all left their imprint on her approach.
The result is a kaleidoscope of melodies, jazz-inflected rhythms, and organic percussion, woven seamlessly into sets that feel at once atmospheric and propulsive. Whether commanding the decks at the Brooklyn Mirage, Womb in Tokyo, or Berlin’s Sisyphos, Iguchi has earned a reputation for transporting dancers into her richly textured sonic world.
On this Balance Selections mix, she leans into dense progressive and afro-tech, crafting a moody blend of underground energy. Featuring tracks from Petar Dundov, Giovanny Aparicio, and Art of Sol, it’s a kinetic ride with a distinctive organic edge.

I remember growing up in Tokyo, I was always listening to US pop and jazz music in my father’s car. I always loved them and that was my first recognition for music.
I spent my teenage years in a rock band and started noticing electronic-infused bands like Radiohead, Massive Attack, and Thievery Corporation. I began to like them more and more, and the moment I recognized house music was when I listened to the track ‘Love‘ by the Motor City Drum Ensemble. I immediately fell in love.
It was at Womb, which is Tokyo’s legendary club for House / Techno. I was drawn to it.
Recondite has been a great inspiration for me. I truly admire his talent and dedication to his unique style. I also love Rodriguez Jr., John Digweed, and Jeremy Olander. I’ve been following their music for many years, and these artists have significantly influenced my music style tod
I purchased The Liminality of Her by Amanda Whiting last year. I’ve been into contemporary jazz in the last couple of years and I found her music. This EP is a fusion between jazz and funk, has some great relaxing songs using harp sounds I can listen to anytime at home.
My next show will be in New York this Friday at Silo alongside Konstantin Sibold and Justin Marchacos. I have some fun shows planned in Europe this summer and in Asia in November, it will be so exciting!
I recorded live in a studio using CDJs. It took me a couple of weeks to select the tracks and record several times to get it just right. I wanted to express a positive vibe and excitement in this mix to celebrate 25 years of the Balance Series. 🙂
