Stripped Music boss Norman H shows his credentials…

London’s Norman H is the founder of Stripped Music, home to Stripped Recordings and Stripped Digital—two labels that have spent more than two decades championing progressive house and forward-thinking underground electronic music.

Since launching in 2005, the imprint has earned support from the scene’s biggest names, from Sasha and Danny Tenaglia to Hernán Cattáneo and Maceo Plex, while Norman has built a reputation for deep, groove-led sets and extended performances across the globe, particularly in Mexico. In 2025, he added 10 Beatport No. 1s across genre and release charts through collaborations with Ranj Kaler (a past Selections guest himself).

On this Balance Selections mix, the veteran delivers a two-hour journey through the deeper reaches of progressive house.

Featuring music from Aubrey Fry, Dance Spirit, Cass and more, it’s a patient, hypnotic mix that is fuelled by an underground energy.

My parents’ taste in music was, of course, my first influence. It mainly consisted of Reggae (Bob Marley & The Wailers, John Holt, Dennis Brown, and Gregory Isaacs), Soul (The Commodores, Lionel Richie, Al Green, and Marvin Gaye), and some Country music—which came from my mum.

These are just a few examples of the many musical influences I was exposed to as a child.

My parents weren’t musicians themselves, but they played music constantly, especially at weekends.

I also had two or three uncles on both sides of the family who had massive and incredibly diverse record collections. That only added fuel to my obsession with music from a very young age.

From the get-go, really. I’m on the cusp of the Baby Boomer and Generation X eras, so I absorbed everything like a sponge.

I was into Soul, Funk, some Pop and Rock, and Punk. Then Hip Hop and Electro took hold, until Acid House completely consumed me from 1986 onwards.

I was constantly visiting my local record stores in London, where I’d hear the latest imports fresh out of the box.

Being exposed to so much new music at such an early stage had a huge impact on my musical journey.

Without question, it has to be the remix I did with my good friend Ranj Kaler for Stereo Mind‘s track “Tension,” which was released last June on my Stripped Recordings label.

A thing of beauty: this will always remind me of those long early morning beach walks during the pandemic.
