Patch Park crafts a two-hour session aimed at dark dancefloors…
From the late 2000s to the mid-2010s, Patch Park featured regularly across iconic labels like Global Underground and Renaissance. After a hiatus, the Dutch duo — Perry van de Vrede and Dennis Roelofs — are back, pushing boundaries with a renewed spark. Long associated with the deep, the dark, and the hypnotic, they continue to chart that course with releases on Meanwhile, Vapour, and their own imprint, District.
For this Balance Selections mix, the duo dims the lights for a dense, heads-down session. Featuring tracks from Sean Harvey, Maxi Degrassi, and a slew of Patch Park productions, it’s a deep dive into the more hypnotic corners of progressive.

Dennis: My parents, especially my dad played a lot of Queen and Pink Floyd. Still love that music a lot!
Perry: A lot of 80’s songs. My uncle had an illegal radio station and let me fiddle around with some turntables from time to time. I vividly recall spinning Never Gonna Give You Up from Rick Astley.
Dennis: When I was listening to Jeroen van Inkel on Saturday night. I was 14 years old and glued to the radio.
Perry: All my mates we’re into it. When I was a teenager, we all listened to hardcore (gabber) music.
Perry: The first real clubbing experience outside of my small hometown was in a club called Barocci in Zundert (Netherlands). Think Yves Deruyter and Zolex we’re playing. I fell in love with the Belgian club sound from around 1994.
Dennis: Clubtempo, Qdance, Hemkade 48 in Zaandam (Netherlands), I think it was Norman Bass that caught my attention. It’s a while ago, as many other DJ’s were also performing.
Dennis: For me that’s always been Underworld, Fatboy Slim and Hot Since 82.
Perry: John Digweed has been such an influence. Also, I love so much pop from the 80’s.
Dennis: I mainly download single tracks. I only download the songs from an album that I really like. I can’t remember the last album that I bought.
Perry: The same goes for me. Think the last album I bought was the first album from Empire of the Sun.
Perry: Our studio setup is mainly software based. I have a midi keyboard from M-Audio and a soundcard from Antelope. I use Ableton. I use a range of effect plugins from different software companies. I mainly use Astra synth for my sounds, Diva comes second. I use a ton of samples, some tracks don’t have a synth at all. I love Splice and Loopcloud, these were the actual gamechangers for me.
Dennis: Our home DJ setup includes an Xone DB4 a few CDJ3000’s and two Technics SL1210’s. We have quite a nice record collection we occasionally love to play for friends and just to have fun. We also have a custom DJ booth that we bring when we organize events.
At the moment I’ve got lots of ideas sketched out which need developing. Usually when I start working on an E.P or album, it begins with a creative period of jamming out ideas to see what comes without considering too much about how it’s going to be used or fit together.
Some of the tracks are pretty finished, others are still to be developed from their initial stage so we’ll see where they end up. I’d like to get a new E.P. or album out by the end of the year but we’ll see how the creative process unfolds and won’t set a deadline on myself until I’m a bit further down that path!
Our upcoming releases include an EP on Mango Alley, a track with The Wash on Music To Die For and the last dance track before the outro in our Balance Mix called Shine on is up next on our own imprint District.
We recently started District Sessions where we put out our own mixes. We’re currently in the process of preparing a lot of original material and bootlegs for gigs in the upcoming future. We’ve been out of the game for a bit, but now back with what we think is an interesting sound.
The curation took us a while because we love a wide selection of genres that we’re rooted in. This is also what you’ll hear in our mix. We chose to make it 2 hours, because we love to play long(er) sets because we get to tap into a lot of styles. This mix teases and builds towards a more techno-ish ending.
Our latest release Mr Mysterious really showcases our sound: Chunky tech/prog, with driving beats that crosses a few genre’s. It’s out on our own label called District.
A bootleg we made of Robert Owens I’ll Be Your Friend. Still fine-tuning it though! Currently enjoying what David Calo and Cortona are putting out, but also love deeper tech stuff from Nae:Tek.
Perry: Don’t know why exactly but this has been on my USB stick for ages. Love to drop it wherever I can.
Dennis: Dark and Long from Underworld. NEVER gets old!
Perry: Oppenheimer. Didn’t manage to see it yet until recently.
Dennis: Deadpool & Wolverine 3, it’s my absolute favourite genre of movies to watch. I also have a lot of the comics and also watch and a lot of the backstories.
Dennis: Currently I’m really into Killing Eve.
Perry: The Office US is my absolute all time favourite. Watched the whole series plenty times, so good! Currently watching Afterlife for the second time.
Dennis: Namibia surprised me how beautiful country it is.
Perry: Don’t really have a destination in mind. If there is sunshine, a nice temperature, and most important, good company, I’ll be enjoying myself.
