A tight two-hours from American producer Zehv…
From blues guitar to electronic music, Zehv has always approached music with a deep sense of curiosity. Since turning his attention to production and DJing in 2014, he’s built a reputation for emotionally rich, groove-driven electronic music.
His productions have appeared on imprints including Mood of Mind and Stripped Recordings, while his performances have seen him share lineups with artists such as Sébastien Léger and Joris Voorn.
Whether in the studio or behind the decks, Zehv continues to refine a sound rooted in musicianship, atmosphere and dancefloor energy.
On this Balance Selections mix, the American producer explores the full breadth of that sound. Featuring music from Davi, Pryda, Ezequiel Arias and more, the journey moves effortlessly between progressive house staples and a generous selection of Zehv’s own productions, resulting in a tightly woven two-hour session.

As a child, I mostly listened to the radio. I’d listen to early 2000s stuff like Backstreet Boys and N’Sync, but I found my way to record stores, where I’d listen to every CD I could get my hands on and for as long as I could at the store. My dad grew up on a lot of classic rock (Beatles, Stones, ELO, Doobie Brothers and more), so I have great memories listening to those bands with him in the car. I’d say growing up, my favorite bands were AC/DC, Van Halen, Metallica, and The Beatles.
It took me a while for electronic music to really latch on, but the first song that completely enamoured me was The Prodigy – Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix). Made me want to punch through a window, and as an angsty 14-year-old, that’s exactly what I wanted to do.
I remember getting The Prodigy’s album The Law, and then Pendulum‘s album Hold Your Colour, and seeing them live in SF in 2008. It was such a special period of music exploration for me.
From that moment on, electronic music became an inseparable part of my life. I was always fascinated by discovering new sounds, so over the years I listened to virtually every electronic genre that came along. It was this constant exploration that shaped my musical taste of dance music.
And to be honest, that journey is still going on today, I still love discovering new music and new sounds.
Oh god, I honestly think it was probably Quintino at a dayglow party in college. I did not want to be there, and after about 30 minutes of my ears hurting from not wearing earplugs, I went home, haha
There are SO many people that inspire me – but I actually try to look outside of the progressive scene for inspiration more than anything because I find I can tap into things that are meaningful to me personally, rather than trying to sound or be like another progressive producer.
I love going to techno shows; I find them very inspiring in terms of percussion, DJ flow, and atmospheres. Avalon Emerson, Erika, Antenes, Claudio PRC, and Wata Igourashi are some who have inspired me so much.
I also like to tap into my roots and find inspiration from classic rock and blues music. I record a lot of guitar into my tracks. Within the progressive scene, Eric Prydz, Guy J, Fehrplay, and Jeremy Olander have inspired me more than most.
They are always innovating on their own terms, pushing boundaries and exploring what is possible, even if it is a risk.
I honestly have no clue what album I last purchased since Spotify came around. The last song I bought was:
I produce about 90% in the box at home. I’m lucky to have a very nice, creative space in my home with a studio desk (that I will soon have to give up, sadly). I have a 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M1 Max, I use Logic Pro X and also have a Behringer TD-3 acid synth and a Korg Monologue.
I record with my guitar more than anything. I will run my Ibanez RG series into Logic and put Guitar Rig on it from Native Instruments, find a fun patch, and start recording FX/chord progressions/leads. I also am a huge fan of UE Hive 2, Diva, and the Arturia V9 collection.
I DJ with 4 CDJ’s (prefer 3000s but honestly if you gave me 4 walkmans and a mixer I’d figure out a way to make it work), an A9 or V10, and sometimes will bring my guitar with me.
Depends on how much free time I have to practice.
I’m not sure I can announce them yet, but I have some releases coming soon 🙂
I am very excited to be starting up my own brand of progressive events that are designed to foster connection within the progressive community in North America. We had our 2nd event on July 15th in NYC, and Toronto in June.
I will be performing at Silo in NYC on July 17th with Qrion, Breakaway Music Festival in Philadelphia September 11-12, and then I will be performing Oct 21st at ADE.
I wanted to do something very special for this Balance mix. I wanted to showcase this new side of my sound, which a lot of people don’t get to see very often.
I mixed some of my favorite songs, artists, and tracks that have been making me feel excited recently with a mix of some of my releases and a lot of never before heard ID’s. I hope it resonates with everyone!
This track is incredible; go buy it now, thank me later.
